Not sleeping enough at night? Are the pounds beginning to pack on?
Recent studies published in the International Journal of Obesity has linked the two problems. They concluded that women between the ages of 40-60 who do not have healthy sleeping patterns tend to put on weight very easily and have difficulty losing it. They attribute the cause to be from a disruption in sleeping patterns that leads to a shift in hormones as well as altering the natural metabolic cycles the body goes through in a day.
Inconsistent sleep patterns do not allow the body to follow its natural rhythms thus the body needs to shift its efforts to correct this problem; the end result is a body that is out of sync. Some of the more noticeable changes a person will experience are increased stress levels, irritability, poor memory and weight gain.
The way to remedy these symptoms is to address the root of the problem: inconsistent sleep patterns.
Instead of using prescription sleeping pills, which are just sedatives in the end, one needs to approach it from a natural, holistic angle. Using Melatonin to reset your sleeping cycles is a great way to get back on track. Another approach is using soothing herbs such as Lemon Balm, Ashwaganda or Green Tea. All these work on the nervous system to "calm" the body and allow it to rest for a good nights sleep.
If you are not sure which ones would best suit your needs come down to Thrive to discuss them with Daniel.
